Caught my Interest:
Here’s a brief read on one of my favorite strategies to build a network “Come for the tool stay for the network”. This approach illustrates the effectiveness of using single-player tools as a starting point for successful network building
The impact of AI on the marketplace is already evident, particularly in terms of its relevance at an additional feature level. The future success of these marketplaces depends on two vectors: the degree of personalization in the supply chain, and the core offerings of marketplace irl vs digital
Do you think Ozempic is just another fad? Think again. You know the craze around these semaglutide products has reached new heights when giants like Nestle start actively developing new f&b offerings to go with these weight loss drugs
Here's an intriguing perspective on the global phenomenon known as China Decoupling. Many of us, myself included, likely believed that the primary threat from China was in the export of consumer goods, often associated with practices like dumping. However, it turns out that China produces 40% of the world's intermediate goods and only 20% of the world's final goods (quite surprising, isn't it?). So, what does this information imply? It means that if the countries want to restore their manufacturing prowess, they need to focus on intermediate goods. This means we should use more subsidies and fewer tariffs since tariffs on intermediate goods are especially harmful to domestic manufacturing. A recent discovery by a group of researchers revealed evidence indicating, for the first time, that the technology behind ChatGPT and Bard is indeed capable of generating information that surpasses human knowledge. This capability is demonstrated by solving problems such as the cap set and bin packing problem
Science Corner:
Recently, David Friedberg, one of my favorite venture capitalists from The Production Board, assumed the role of CEO at Ohalo Genetics. Keep an eye out as he spearheads the development of this exciting, groundbreaking company. Just thrilled to see how gene editing will lead to significant advancements in agriculture
In the competitive landscape of battery development, Lithium-ion-based batteries secure the majority of funding. However, there is another emerging technology that has recently captured widespread attention: Thermal Battery
Hot Take:
Startups are 10x more likely to die from suicide than homicide
All the problems that exist in this world are at its core computational problems. From mental illness to cancer to climate change are all the overarching questions for computational superiority!
(I intend to post this opinion every week until my ever-evolving belief is challenged or reshaped)
Random Stuff:
Here’s a script from one of the interviews with Charlie Munger that stood out to me: Interviewer: "Charlie, if you started with Warren today and you were both 30 years old, do you think you guys would build anything close to what Berkshire is today?". Charlie: "The answer to that is no, we wouldn't. We had... everybody that had unusually good results... almost everything has three things: They're very intelligent, they worked very hard, and they were very lucky. It takes all three to get them on this list of the super-successful. How can you arrange to have just good luck? The answer is you can start early and keep trying for a long time, and maybe you'll get one or two"
Someone suggested I download Grapevine a few days ago, and since then, I've been hooked on that app. Here's something really funny I came across. The quality of content here cannot be underestimated
